Abstract
Horace Alexander was born in England in 1889 and died in the United States in 1989. As a life-long member of the Religious Society of Friends, he was interested in Indian rights and worked with Gandhi and others for many years to lobby for it. He wrote books about Gandhi and other subjects.

The collection contains correspondence of the family of C. Canby Balderston, a prominent Quaker and businessman. He served with the Friends Relief Service and the Relief Commission for Belgium during WWI and both of his sons, Frederick Emery Balderston and Robert W. Overview
The Friends Ambulance Unit was a volunteer ambulance service that operated during both World Wars as well as for a period after WWII (1946-1959). It was founded by a group of British Quakers and most of the volunteers were registered conscientious objectors. This collection contains loose black and white photos (now in sleeves) of the Friends Ambulance Unit in Syria and France. Some of the photos in this collection ran in Harper's Bazaar.
