Horace Champney was a pacifist active in various causes from the late 1940s through the 1980s. He was a founder of The Peacemakers Movement in the 1950s and interested in civil rights, war tax refusal, and other social justice causes. The manuscript of Elaine Crauderueff's thesis for a Master of Arts in religious studies provides an overview of religious background of Quaker pacifism, including Quaker relationships with government authorities and the Peace Testimony of 1660. It also describes Quakers in the legislature, consequences of Quaker pacifism, and war taxes from 1750 to 1800, particularly those in Pennsylvania and in the colonies during the Revolutionary War period.
