Lebanon Hospital for Mental Diseases records

Overview The Lebanon Hospital for Mental Diseases of Syria (now Lebanon) was founded in 1898 by Theophilus Waldmeier, who spent more than 40 years in Abyssinia and Syria in educational missionary work.The American Committee was founded in 1897 by Waldemier "for the purpose of interesting Americans in this cherished plan for support of this hospital" (minutes, November 15, 1923). Morris/Engle Family Papers

Although the central figure in this collection is the Philadelphia Quaker businessman and philanthropist, T. Wistar Brown (1826-1916), it also includes materials relating to his father Moses Brown, mother Mary Wistar Brown, and wife Mary Farnum Brown, along with other members of the Brown family. Among the papers are correspondence, diaries, scrapbooks and deeds.
