Scope and Content note This collection is comprised of a single photostatic copy of a manuscript book of meetings, compiled about 1765 by an anonymous author, listing the Quaker Meetings in the Yearly Meetings of New England, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and North Carolina. according to a note on the back of the first page of the photostatic copy, the original manuscript was located at the Moses Brown School in Providence, R.I. as of 1932, and that it had previously belonged to a woman named Mary Olney. Abby Hopper Gibbons Family Photographs

Overview Abigail Hopper Gibbons (1801-1893) was an important figure in many of the reform movements in the middle and late nineteenth century. Like her father, Isaac T. Hopper (1771-1852), "Abby" Gibbons was an ardent abolitionist and dedicated to prison reform. This collection includes: a carte de visite album compiled by Abby Hopper Gibbons; a daguerreotype of Abby with her husband James and children; and photographs of her descendents, the Dunning family.

This copy, in an unknown hand, was likely written in the latter half of the 19th century. The volume describes Isaac Coates, Joshua Sharpless, and John Pierce's travel to Native American reservations on behalf of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Indian Committee, and the work they did while there.

Horace Gundry Alexander Papers

Abstract Horace Alexander was born in England in 1889 and died in the United States in 1989. As a life-long member of the Religious Society of Friends, he was interested in Indian rights and worked with Gandhi and others for many years to lobby for it.
